Early Signs (0β2 hours)
- Wobbly, unsteady walk or stumbling
- Glassy eyes, dilated pupils
- Heightened startle response (sound/touch)
- Lethargy, confusion, or anxiety
Common Symptoms
- Tremors or twitching
- Drooling, vomiting
- Urinary dribbling
- Disorientation, temporary blindness
Severity varies by dose, size, and whether edibles are involved.
When Itβs Urgent
- Collapse, seizures, or unresponsiveness
- Very small dogs/puppies exposed to edibles
- Exposure plus chocolate or xylitol
These need immediate veterinary attention.
What To Do Right Now
- Stay calm and call your veterinarian or ER clinic
- Do not induce vomiting unless a vet instructs you
- Bring packaging or remnants to show the vet
- Keep your dog warm, quiet, and secured for the ride
