Early Signs (0–2 hours)

  • Wobbly, unsteady walk or stumbling
  • Glassy eyes, dilated pupils
  • Heightened startle response (sound/touch)
  • Lethargy, confusion, or anxiety

Common Symptoms

  • Tremors or twitching
  • Drooling, vomiting
  • Urinary dribbling
  • Disorientation, temporary blindness

Severity varies by dose, size, and whether edibles are involved.

When It’s Urgent

  • Collapse, seizures, or unresponsiveness
  • Very small dogs/puppies exposed to edibles
  • Exposure plus chocolate or xylitol

These need immediate veterinary attention.

What To Do Right Now

  • Stay calm and call your veterinarian or ER clinic
  • Do not induce vomiting unless a vet instructs you
  • Bring packaging or remnants to show the vet
  • Keep your dog warm, quiet, and secured for the ride
